Q: I have had nausea and vomiting for one week out of my monthly cycle for the last 10 years. My doctors have diagnosed endometriosis. In addition, 6 months ago, a laparoscopy was done, and a chocolate cyst on my ovary was found. Can you help me?

A: In my opinion, my patients usually have very good results with endometriosis over the period of 4-6 months. However, you must be willing to change your lifestyle. You must be VERY careful about what you put on the skin. This includes changing laundry detergent, lotions and shampoo. Even some health food store detergent and shampoos can be very disastrous for the patient. This was a very surprising result when I started treating endometriosis 6 years ago. A chocolate ovarian cyst is merely an ovarian cyst that has had bleeding into it. Take topical Natural Progesterone.

The liver first pass metabolizes 90% of hormones put in the mouth. In contrast, hormones put on the skin are absorbed directly bypassing the liver. So a topical Natural Progesterone dose of 20 mg/day is equivalent to a 200 mg/day dose orally. In other words, anything put on the skin is 10 times the oral dose.

Q: Are there any other nutritional supplements that can help endometriosis?

A: Indole-3-Carbinol 400-600 mg/day can be very helpful in the treatment of endometriosis. However, many times Indole-3-Carbinol is not needed. Indole-3-Carbinol gives the liver the raw material to eat up and metabolize estradiol. Thus, Indole-3-Carbinol lowers your estradiol levels. Temporary hot flashes may be the result of taking Indole-3-Carbinol. However, you may only need to take Indole-3-Carbinol for several months and then quit. Estradiol stimulates endometriosis to grow.

Q: Do I need to take Natural Progesterone for the rest of my life to control endometriosis?

A: No, not necessarily, the primary cause of endometriosis is xenoestrogens in the environment going into your body. Also fear/stress/anxiety will prevent your body from excreting all chemicals including xenoestrogens. So after you get the endometriosis under control with the topical Natural Progesterone and avoiding xenoestrogens in 4-6 months, then you may quit the Natural Progesterone. IF you are really good at avoiding xenoestrogens, then you don’t need the Natural Progesterone after that.

Q: Isn’t endometriosis genetic?

A: Prior to 1921, there were only 20 cases of endometriosis in the world wide medical literature. Today, endometriosis is prevalent in 1 out of 20 women in America. This alone would suggest an environmental cause. Monkeys given low dose dioxin were shown to have a higher incidence of endometriosis many years later.

Q: Will I ever be normal again?

A: Most of our patients that have closely avoided xenoestrogens and taken topical Natural Progesterone for 4-6 months report feeling normal.

Q: Will avoiding xenoestrogens and taking Natural Progesterone help my monthly pain?

A: The majority of our patients that use topical Natural Progesterone and closely avoid xenoestrogens report a major reduction in monthly abdominal pain and believe that it works.
